My first quilts were inspired by a trip our family took to Japan in 2010. I fell in love with the clean lines and simplicity of Japanese textiles. We visited tenugui shops, and kimono consignment shops in addition to the beautiful museums, castles and temples.
My first finished quilt, “Gourds’, started with a furoshiki, rather like a large hand towel (40X40 inches) as its center. They are often used to transport goods when folded into a bag, or to wrap gifts instead of wrapping paper.
I love the peaceful feeling of the blue and cream fabrics.
I ordered more Japanese textiles on the same order. These ended up on our bed, as well as Christmas gifts for our daughters. Check out the next few blog posts to see the series of Japan inspired quilts.
