These quilts were three different styles of Japanese quilts. The first was “Usagi,” for our oldest daughter. It uses the same format as “Gourds,” with a large central hand towel, and strips around the outside. It is twin sized.
The central panel is ordered from Japan and is single print, about 40 inches square.
First I tried it with mustard yellow accents to play off the color of the moon. Ultimately, I preferred to accent the small amount of red in the fabric, which is difficult to see in this photo. Here is the completed quilt top. As this was my first quilt, I was afraid to try free motion quilting and I sent it off to be done professionally. The quilter, Sarah at Sarah’s Thimble, did a beautiful chrysanthemum pattern on her long arm.
