Lap quilt for my Mother-in-Law

My Mother-in-Law became ill and had to go first to the hospital, then a nursing care center for rehabilitation. She gets cold easily now, so I wanted her to have a lap quilt that she could use when she is wheeling around in her wheel chair or just sitting in her chair in the room. This was a quick to make quilt, quick in the planning and quick in the making, hence no photos of the process! I cut large triangles each from the white and the gold fabric. I had this fabric in my stash and it matched her room so well. I placed the two gold triangles in the middle to give a diagonal stripe pattern then did straight line quilting, three rows at a time all along the quilt in a diagonal fashion. Super quick and easy!

The back is the same gold fabric, as is the binding. The dimensions are 42X58 inches. I always try to conserve fabric, if possible by using WOF for small quilts, such as baby quilts or lap quilts, or I may use another fabric added to each side like stripes. As this needed to be compact and relatively narrow, the 42 inch worked well. It also is not very heavy for someone who cannot lift a heavy quilt easily. I named it Uneven Keel to describe this time in one’s life when even though one knows how to sail, the mechanics are not working correctly to always keep one upright.
